Traffic Control Week of December 6, 2023

North Valleys Project Traffic Control Update

Dear Stakeholder,

The North Virginia Street on-ramp to southbound U.S. 395 in Panther Valley is closed for an extended period of time as part of a Nevada Department of Transportation project to widen and improve U.S. 395.
The ramp closure began the evening of Dec. 5 and is scheduled to be in place through late 2024, with a nearby detour available via North Virginia Street to the southbound U.S. 395 ramp at Golden Valley Road.
With southbound highway lanes currently shifted toward the ramp to make room for major highway construction, the ramp is being closed for safety.
The ramp closure is part of a multi-year highway improvement project to widen and repave approximately four miles of U.S. 395 between North McCarran Boulevard and Golden Valley Road.

Speeds will be reduced to 55 mph 24/7 through the work zone, with lanes slightly shifted.

Through winter, all lanes are anticipated to remain open for travel during daytime commute hours.

  • Lanes will be reduced to a minimum of one lane in each direction:
    • Northbound U.S. 395: between 8 p.m. and 11 a.m.
    • Southbound U.S. 395: between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Intermittent ramp closures will take place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • No two consecutive ramps will be closed in the same direction, and detour routes will be marked.

This is a multi-year project with anticipated completion in 2025. Beginning in early 2024, NDOT advises drivers to anticipate additional major construction impacts, including northbound U.S. 395 being reduced to two lanes and extended closure of North Virginia Street access to northbound U.S. 395 for bridge construction.

Please Note:

  1. Message signs will be in place notifying motorists of the work activities.
  2. Expect delays and use alternate routes when possible.
